About the event

FREE EARTH DAY COMMUNITY EVENT

This workshop is curated by Hive Curates in conjunction with the Zero Waste Futures element of the Alice Billings Connect programme. This is a cultural programme designed to empower Newham locals and connect them with art and culture. The workshop leader is the brilliant Hernan Guardamagna.

This workshop consists of playfully recycling rubbish to design and create shoes. The goal of the workshop is to raise awareness about the importance of recycling, repurposing and up-cycling, especially shoes.

Participants will be challenged to design and create artwork in the shape of shoes using recycled rubbish. This will be done playfully, utilizing materials such as cardboard, different types of paper, plastics, fabrics and any other non-harmful material found in the recycling bin.

The workshop will propose innovative ways of reutilising and recycling materials that otherwise will go to the bin. It will also focus on thinking outside the box when it comes to design and making, something that is key to embracing sustainable practices.

Please bring along old shoes and trainers that might have otherwise ended up in the bin.

See you on Saturday 22nd 12:00 - 14:00.
